Elder Abuse Arrests-Long Beach, CA and LA County

Police Make Two Elder Abuse Arrests

Two people have been arrested and charged with elder abuse for attempts to steal money from the same victim.

On Jan. 8, police officers were called to the Wells Fargo Bank in Bixby Knolls to arrest Mayra Rodriguez, age 18. She was charged with financial elder abuse for trying to withdraw $5,000 from the bank account of a 91-year-old woman for whom Rodriguez was the caretaker and neighbor.

After Rodriguez's arrest, officers from Adult Protective Services worked with a firm called Accent Care Service to make sure that the victim continued to get meal service and other care. Accent Care sent Mario Orozco, 29, of Long Beach, to the victim's home to help with her needs.

On Jan. 22, Long Beach Police were called to City National Bank because Orozco was trying to withdraw $100,000 from the woman's account. Orozco was arrested by police and charged with financial elder abuse.

Two days later, the Los Angeles County District Attorney filed 10 counts of burglary and theft against Orozco tied to elders he was caring for. Police are still searching to see if there are other people who may be victims of Orozco or Rodriguez. Anyone with information is asked to call 570-7330.
